Halit Ergenç and Meryem Uzerli Reunite in New Film ‘İmroz’da Bahar’
The Magnificent Century stars share the screen again in Özcan Alper's new drama, premiering in Egypt.
Fifteen years after captivating global audiences in the hit historical drama Muhteşem Yüzyıl (Magnificent Century), Turkish actors Halit Ergenç and Meryem Uzerli are sharing the screen once again. The celebrated duo will star in the upcoming film İmroz’da Bahar (Spring in Imroz), which is set to make its world premiere at the El Gouna Film Festival in Egypt on October 20, 2026.
The recent release of the film’s first trailer has already generated significant excitement among fans who have waited over a decade to see the actors reunite. Produced by Sky Films and Vanguart, the project highlights the natural beauty of the Aegean island of Gökçeada, which serves as a central element of the narrative.
A New Chapter on Gökçeada
Directed and written by award-winning filmmaker Özcan Alper, İmroz’da Bahar moves away from the grandeur of Ottoman palaces to tell a contemporary, emotional story. The film is set against the serene backdrop of Gökçeada, historically known as Imroz. It follows two mature individuals whose paths cross on the island, forcing them to confront their pasts and explore the possibility of a second chance at life and love.
The El Gouna Film Festival, known for celebrating diverse international cinema, provides a fitting stage for the film’s highly anticipated debut. Following its festival premiere, İmroz’da Bahar is scheduled for a wide theatrical release, with plans to reach audiences in more than 50 countries later this year.
The Legacy of Magnificent Century
Halit Ergenç and Meryem Uzerli became international television icons for their portrayals of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent and Hürrem Sultan. Their undeniable on-screen chemistry helped turn Muhteşem Yüzyıl into a global phenomenon, paving the way for the massive international success of subsequent Turkish historical series, such as Kuruluş Osman.
While their previous collaboration was rooted in 16th-century Ottoman history, their new project offers viewers a chance to see them in a modern, grounded drama. As the premiere date approaches, the reunion of these two prominent figures in Turkish cinema marks one of the most anticipated cultural events of the autumn season.
