Susuz Yaz Trailer: Kanal D Series Set in 1970s Adana
Kanal D's Adana-set drama, based on Necati Cumalı, releases its first trailer.
Kanal D has released the first Susuz Yaz trailer, giving viewers a first look at its new drama set in 1970s Adana. According to Hürriyet, the series is still filming in the Çukurova region, and the trailer centres on a village dispute over water and a love story between two brothers’ lives.
Susuz Yaz is produced by Ay Yapım. Kanal D has not yet given a broadcast date, saying only that the series will arrive “very soon”, as Hürriyet reports.
What the Susuz Yaz trailer shows
The trailer follows Osman, played by Mert Ramazan Demir. One line stands out: “Kimseyi susuz yaza mahkûm etmeyeceğim!” (“I will not condemn anyone to a summer without water!”). The Osman here is a fictional village character and has no link to the Ottoman founder.
Another phrase, “Su hepimizin!” (“Water belongs to all of us!”), appears in an argument among villagers. It points to the main tension: who controls water and land.
Lizge Cömert plays Bahar, the woman Osman wants to build a new life with. Batuhan Bozkurt Yüzgüleç plays Hasan, whose hidden plans, according to the series’ description, will test the bond between the brothers. Hürriyet says the trailer reached millions of views quickly, but that figure comes from the newspaper and we have not verified it independently.
Story, cast and creative team
The drama is set in Çarlak Village in 1970s Adana. Disputes over water and land grow over time and change both brothers’ lives, according to the source. Sema Ergenekon wrote the television adaptation. Yusuf Pirhasan and Mehmet Can Bindal direct.
The wider cast includes Şebnem Bozoklu (Döne), İrem Sak (Yeter), Serpil Gül (Beyaz), Deniz Celiloğlu (Resul), Umut Kurt (Ramo) and Şirin Sultan Şaldamlı (Fatma). Güneş Sayın (Hatice), Begüm Akkaya (Dilan), Ilgım İpekçi (Elvan), Meriç Rakalar (Müslüm), Özgür Daniel Foster (Murtaza), Kayra Zapçı (Gülşen), Esra Ünnü (Filiz) and Kemal Burak Alper (Cevri) also appear.
A Turkish literary title with a film history
Susuz Yaz is based on a work by the writer Necati Cumalı. The title is already familiar to Turkish cinema fans. Metin Erksan’s 1963 film of the same name won the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival in 1964.
The new series is a separate television adaptation, so viewers should not expect it to copy the film. How closely it follows Cumalı’s text has not been confirmed. Kanal D is expected to announce the premiere date and time before broadcast.
