Death of Truth Premieres at Antalya Golden Orange Festival
Hüseyin Karabey's drama with Mehmet Günsür and Mert Fırat debuted on 28 October 2026.
Death of Truth (Hakikatin Ölümü), a new Turkish drama starring Mehmet Günsür and Mert Fırat, had its world premiere at the 63rd International Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival. Director and screenwriter Hüseyin Karabey presented the film in the National Feature Film Competition. The screening took place in the Aspendos Hall of the Atatürk Cultural Center in Antalya.
The cast and crew held a press event on 28 October 2026. They also discussed the film with the audience after the screening.
What the Death of Truth story is about
The film centres on Feridun, played by Mert Fırat. His quiet life changes when his former friend Timuçin, played by Mehmet Günsür, returns unexpectedly. Timuçin is weighed down by guilt over murders he committed years earlier and is thinking about turning himself in.
Feridun tries to stop him, because his own freedom is also at stake. According to the festival report, their confrontation unfolds behind the locked doors of Feridun’s home. Buried secrets and complicated relationships come under scrutiny there.
The rest of the cast includes Yağmur Elif Seber, Ümit Çırak and Emre Yıldızlar.
What the director and actors said in Antalya
Karabey said he is drawn to stories about problems that pass down and build up across generations. He welcomed both praise and criticism. He credited his team for the film’s strengths and took personal responsibility for any weaknesses.
Fırat thanked viewers who came to the screening despite the rain. He said he first met his character in the novel behind the story. He described the film as a chance to look at the human experiences behind the dark events of the 1990s.
Günsür spoke about the responsibility actors carry when they play characters tied to real experiences. He said such roles demand care toward people who have lived through similar events. He also thanked supporters of independent cinema.
“Darkness uses you first, then destroys you,” Günsür said. He added that the events in the story are not limited to Türkiye and happen around the world.
Why this Golden Orange premiere matters
The Golden Orange is one of Türkiye’s best-known film festivals. Earlier reports on the 2026 lineup said eight films in the national competition would premiere in Antalya, and Death of Truth was among them. That makes the festival the first place where Turkish audiences and critics could see the film.
For readers who know Günsür and Fırat mainly from television, the film shows another side of their work. It is a festival drama rather than a series, and its focus is guilt and conscience rather than spectacle.
The sources reviewed do not give a general release date or a festival result for the film. Any announcement on distribution or awards will need separate confirmation.
