10 New Films Open in Turkish Cinemas This Week

AA lists Turkish and international titles, from drama to animation, opening this week.

Ten new films are opening in Turkish cinemas this week, according to Anadolu Agency (AA) via TRT Haber. The line-up mixes Turkish and international productions, from family drama and documentary to supernatural thrillers and animation.

For readers who follow Turkish screen culture, the list shows how local and foreign titles share the same release window. Four of the ten films have Turkish directors.

Drama, documentary and biography among the new films

“En Sevdiğim” is a French-Spanish co-production directed by Rodrigo Sorogoyen. Javier Bardem, Victoria Luengo and Melina Matthews lead the cast. The story follows an experienced director who works with his daughter, an actress whose career has struggled. Their project forces both to face old resentments.

“Her Şey Ortada” is a documentary directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim. Fielder, Elizabeth Holmes and Amanda Seyfried appear in the cast. According to AA, the film follows Holmes, founder of Theranos, who invited Fielder and his team to her home before going to prison. She wanted to tell her story her own way, and the project grew into a three-year ordeal.

“Bağlar, Kökler ve Tutkular” is directed by Sunay Terzioğlu. Ushan Çakır, Hasibe Eren and Baran Can Eraslan star. It centres on three people who survive a refugee boat accident and whose paths cross afterwards.

“Çatlı 2” is directed by Deniz Enyüksek and stars Vedat İnceefe, Eren Vurdem and Ömer Kurt. AA says it continues the story of Abdullah Çatlı, who was imprisoned in France. The report gives no further plot detail, and the film should be read as a screen portrayal, not a historical record.

Supernatural stories and tense settings

Several releases lean toward the uncanny. “Nöbet” is a Belgian-French co-production by Marion Le Coroller. Its main character, Margot, starts an internship in a demanding emergency department. She meets patients with unusual symptoms, and a strange change begins in her own body.

“Salmokji: Karanlık Sular” comes from South Korean director Lee Sang Min. A film crew travels to a remote reservoir after an unexplained figure appears in footage. There they meet supernatural events.

The Turkish title “Zikr-i Cin” is directed by Bülent Orçin. According to AA, a group of friends gather in a luxury villa, and instructions arriving on their phones push them into a series of actions.

Animation for younger audiences

“Destan” is an animation by Orhan Burak Acar. Its hero, Destan, is a former “Umut İyesi” (a spirit-like guardian of hope, as the title is described in the report). He seeks revenge on the killer of his family, yet he is pulled into a dark land where memories are stolen. There he must choose between personal vengeance and hope for his whole people.

“Küçük Mamut” is an anime film by Russian director Alexander Voytinskiy. A baby mammoth wakes from an icy sleep and sets out to find his mother in Africa. Along the way he meets a chick who dreams of becoming a rap star.

“Kuzular Firarda: Gizemli Canavar” is directed by Steve Cox and Matthew Walker. Shaun the sheep turns into a “mad scientist” to save a pumpkin field the farmer has ruined. The farmer then disappears and a monster appears in the forest. AA describes the result as a Halloween adventure.

AA’s report does not list exact opening dates, ratings or screening venues. Readers should check local cinema schedules for showtimes.
